
Diocese of Kohima Sunday handed over relief materials to Phesema village leaders and community, to be distributed among those affected families by landslide.
The relief materials were procured by Development Association of Nagaland, the social wing of Catholic Church Nagaland through the help of Caritas India.
While handing over the materials, Bishop of Kohima, Reverend Dr. James Thoppil expressed deepest sympathy to the people of Phesama in this hour of distress.
Besides, Phesama, many other villages in Nagaland affected by rain this year and we are also trying to reach out to them, he said.
He appreciated the immediate assistance of Caritas India.
According to Reverend Thoppil, Caritas International (collective entity of Caritas in each country) is the biggest aid agency that provides relief service in emergencies. They receive fund through the sacrifices and collections, the Catholic Church made during the season of lent. The bishop further thanked the executive secretary of DAN, Fr. Charles, who was prompt in responding to the situation.
Village chairman, Vimedo thanked the Bishop James, fathers and the team from the DAN, for the help rendered to the villagers.
Classic Club: Classic Club, Kohima along with village council chairman and elders also visited Phesama landslide site on September 5 and donated financial assistance to the affected families.
The club also conveyed sympathy to the affected families and lauded various government departments, BRO, NGOs and individuals for assisting the people.
According to the club, about 55 families, 47 houses were affected and 39 houses completely dismantled. Classic Club acknowledged the voluntary services rendered to the weary travellers by Southern Angami people and especially Phesama villagers. Club further appealed to all the section of people both State government and general public to assist the affected households in their respective capacity.
