Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has opposed any attempt to rename Dimapur airport by any group or individual under India’s government’s patronage since it had approved Dimapur Airport to be named after A.Z. Phizo, as decided by Naga Council, on May 10, 1990.
In a press release, Rali wali (information and publicity), FGN, captain Yirei Lungleng said attempt to rename the airport, shall be considered as the arch-enemy of the Naga people and the Naga nation.
FGN said the decision to rename Dimapur Airport had been made by Naga Council along with the funeral organizing committee, as soon as the news about the plane carrying A.Z. Phizo’s mortal remains was to land at the airport.
It stated that when A.Z. Phizo’s mortal remains arrived Dimapur airport on May 10, 1990, a beautiful rainbow suddenly appeared over the airport tarmac and Phizo’s body laid beneath that Rainbow. “This is not a creation or a welcome of humanism, but an amazing revelation and a fulfillment of the words of God”, said FGN.
Earlier, A.Z. Phizo, the father of the Naga nation had also chosen the Rainbow to symbolize the Naga national flag as God inspired him.
FGN said that all those unusual events were witnessed by uncountable thousands of mourners, who had gathered from all the territories of Nagaland to receive Phizo’s mortal remains.
