Congress MLA from Dimapur-II, S.I Jamir on Saturday said medical science has over the years discovered cure for various ailments except HIV & AIDS but was optimistic on the fact that with the advancement in medical sciences, people affected by the virus can now live longer, healthier lives.

Jamir further encouraged those affected with the disease to have a positive mindset so as to live a normal life at the same time educate themselves in various aspects.

Jamir said this while gracing the advocacy programme on HIV & AIDS as guest of honour which was organized by Christ for the Downtrodden Ministry (CFTDM) and supported by Legislators Forum on AIDS (LFA) at Kuda village panchayat hall, Nagarjan, Dimapur.

Jamir while soliciting the society’s involvement in battling AIDS also requested them to treat those affected with HIV & AIDS as any normal person.

Lauding the role of churches in the state in disseminating awareness to the masses on HIV & AIDS after seeing the plight of the people, S.I Jamir said if 20% of the population were affected with HIV & AIDS which was officially declared, then there are chances that many might be affected by the virus but were not disclosing their status due to fear of stigma and discrimination.

Adding that it was not only the responsibility of those in medical profession and church to create awareness on HIV & AIDS, he said it was the duty of the masses as a whole to eradicate the disease and also urged the people to show love and affection to those affected.

Earlier, the programme which was chaired by Meguosienuo Usuo, started with an invocation prayer by Nikhole, evangelist, CWC Church, welcome address by Ato Angami, president, CFTDM, a short speech by Alhoulie Belho, chairman, Kuda Village Council, ART and services available was highlighted by Dr. Molusen Jamir, medical officer, ART, and stigma and discrimination was shared by Darshim, on behalf of the DNP+.

It may be mentioned that CFTDM is a Christian organization established on July 3, 2011, especially meant for the downtrodden.
