Nagaland will soon have its first National Cadet Corps (NCC) girls’ battalion with cadets from all districts of the state. Nagaland National Cadet Corps (NNCC) Girls’ Battalion will be an upgradation of the 66 Nagaland Girls’ (Independent) Company, Kohima.
Brigadier B.S. Sambyal, SM, deputy director general of National Cadet Corps directorate of North Eastern Region, Shillong, who is on an official visit to Nagaland, said the proposed conversion of the unit to battalion was already in the process.
He informed that the proposal was approved and sanctioned by the Government of India.
The required strength of unit is to be raised to 4,770 girl cadets out of the 1,750 cadets at present in Nagaland.
A requirement of 3,020 girl cadets is in need, for which NNC has expanded its coverage to all eleven districts of the state.
Briefing the media, Brigadier Sambyal further said the NNC was focusing on encouraging the girl child to get involved in its activities. He encouraged schools to enroll more girls in National Cadet Corps .
At present, the 66 Nagaland Girls’ (I) Company NCC has a total of 1,750 cadets including 300 Senior Wing cadets and 1,450 Junior Wing cadets.
The unit is the only girls unit giving National Cadet Corps coverage to girl cadets in Nagaland.
NNC organization in Nagaland has its headquarters in Kohima besides the 24 Nagaland (Independent) Company National Cadet Corps for boys in Kohima, 25 Nagaland (Independent) Company National Cadet Corps for boys in Mokokchung, 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC in Dimapur and 66 Nagaland Girls (Independent) Company in Kohima.
