Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) executives and frontal business organizations, that met August 20 at DCCI office, have unanimously resolved to appeal to various Naga groups to check rampant illegal/unauthorized collections by its cadres for “personal benefit” in the name of their respective organizations. A DCCI statement issued Sunday said the business community also resolved to appeal for a “strong system” of checks and balances to ensure that collectors refrain from collecting same taxes repeatedly in the name of different organizations which causes confusion among business community.
With the coming of the festive season, the DCCI said it also resolved to appeal to the various groups to check their members who collect “donations” in their own individual capacity thereby causing undue harassment to the business community. It urged the groups to take “preventive measures during work assignment.”
Further, the DCCI and frontal business organizations resolved to caution businessmen to check “antecedents of their employees” in order to check “unscrupulous individuals who connive with anti-social elements and extort/kidnap and even murder members of the business community.”
DCCI also lauded the Dimapur police, administration and law enforcing agencies for their strong clampdown on antisocial activities particularly extortion and illegal collections. Asserting that it was encouraged by their sincerity and tireless efforts to maintain law and order in Dimapur, the DCCI reiterated its stand to extend fullest cooperation and support to law enforcing agencies.
Meanwhile, the statement said for better coordination and understanding, it was resolved that DCCI and frontal business organizations would hold consultative meeting quarterly, adding DCCI may also hold emergency meetings any time if the situation so demanded. It cautioned that any of the members who failed to attend such meetings for three consecutive times without valid reasons could be removed from the executive body without further notice.
In case of a dispute between two businessmen, the responsible welfare committees, associations or unions would attempt to resolve the issue at its own level. However, in case of inability to settle such disputes at their level, the case could be forwarded to DCCI in writing.
The DCCI said it would first examine the nature of the case and then decide whether to take up the case. The statement said the meet unanimously resolved to undertake mass annual membership drive for smooth and efficient functioning of the DCCI.
It said every business entity could avail membership in the DCCI through their respective business welfare committee, association or union.
Membership in the DCCI along with name, photograph, contact number, nature and location of business etc shall be maintained by the DCCI.
This will ensure prompt and efficient functioning of the DCCI in addressing various issues or complaints from its registered members, it said.
DCCI also pointed out that it would not entertain complaints from any unregistered member(s). It further stated that funds generated from its annual membership drive would be utilized for maintenance of DCCI office.
It said modalities and minute details in respect of annual membership drive would be worked out and notified to the business community soon.
DCCI lauds Aug 20 meet
Highly appreciating the wisdom of leaders of Naga political groups for coming together for a “historic reconciliation” meet August 20 under the banner of FNR, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Sunday said the sagacity accorded by respective leaders to each other after many years of division shined like “a beacon of light which reinforces the Naga people’s belief that every darkest night has a dawning day.”
Top leaders of NSCN/GPRN, GPRN/NSCN and NNC/FGN August 20 took part at the highest level meeting at Dimapur to take the process of Naga reconciliation further for the “historical and political rights of the Nagas.”
The DCCI, in a statement, Sunday said the goodwill, understanding and forgiving spirit of “our Naga national leaders” should be an inspiration and a wake up call to all the Nagas that reconciliation was a must not only for national workers but for everybody, if they were to determine their own future. DCCI said it salutes the FNR for its successive achievements in the course of fostering brotherhood, reconciliation and forgiveness amongst Naga brethren. “It is our humble and unwavering prayer that God Almighty would let divine wisdom, good sense, and a positive outlook towards a cherished and common destination prevail bereft of animosity, hatred and fratricide,” said DCCI.
