In an attempt to control rampant sale of fake cosmetics products, a team of lawyers from Delhi, as per the directives of Delhi court, raided eight shops selling fake cosmetics products at Hazi Park, Dimapur on Monday morning.
The team of lawyers led by SK Bansal lawyer for L’Oreal and Garnier and assisted by district administration police and quality control cell of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) raided eight shops in Hazi Park namely– M/s Rajdeep Fashion, M/s Cosmos, M/s Rahul & Rahul Store, M/s Arbind Store, M/s Umapati Cosmetic Centre, M/s Sourbh Store, M/s Akash Store, & M/s Ruby Corner and seized fake L’Oreal and Garnier products.
Meanwhile, in an e-mail statement from DMC, it was reported that the two companies received information that fake L’ Oreal and Garnier products were being sold in northeast region, with Dimapur as the “focus point” and that Bansal was convinced more fake products of other reputed companies were being sold at Dimapur.
DMC advisor, Tokheli Kikon while cautioning on the use of fake cosmetic products, stated appropriate steps must be taken to stop selling of all duplicate items in Dimapur.
Meanwhile, while the raid was being conducted, the proprietor of Rahul & Rahul store was allegedly manhandled.
Irked by the episode, shopkeepers of Hazi Park and Hong Kong Market area downed their shutters as a mark of protest.
Hundreds of shopkeepers who gathered at the area, demanded for an explanation as to why the shopkeeper was manhandled when he was co-operating with the lawyers and police.
However the matter was later resolved after a meeting between Dimapur Chamber of Commerce Industries (DCCI) and DMC.
