Nagaland governor has reportedly assured the Unemployed Trained Nurses Association (UTNA) Nagaland that he would take their issue to the principal director health & family welfare (H&FW) and discuss the grievances faced by the unemployed nurses at the earliest.
In a press release, UTNA president Bendangmongba said the governor gave this assurance when the association met him on May 8 at Raj Bhavan.
UTNA said governor was “shocked”, when they apprised him that there were more than 800 unemployed trained nurses and more than 400 post of staff nurse lying vacant in various health units in Nagaland. UTNA also told the governor that intake of student nurses was also more than the total seat allotted in each nursing school.
Governor reportedly told the association that false assurance should not be given by the state government during the recruitment process and questioned the management why the vacant posts were not filled up. He also said that talents must be utilized while people were young, adding that nurses should be employed at the right time.
UTNA ultimatum
Stating that the responsible department has failed to respond positively to its several memorandums, which sought filling up vacant posts and revoking new Re-amendment of Nursing Service Rules of Nagaland 2014, the UTNA has said it has no choice but serve a seven-day ultimatum on the concerned department w.e.f. May 11-17, 2015.
Failing to respond positively, UTNA cautioned they have decided to agitate along with TNAI (Trained Nurses Association of India Nagaland branch) until their demands fulfilled.
