DMWTU to join nationwide strike

To protest against Centre’s proposed Road Transport and Safety Bill, 2014, the Dimapur Motor Workers’ Trade Union (DMWTU) has decided to join one-day nationwide strike on April 30. The strike has been called jointly by national-level road transport organisations — representing both public and private sector workers — which are affiliated to central trade unions like All India Trade Union Congress, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, BMS, INTUC, HMS, AICCTU, LPF and state-level outfits.
In a press release, DMWTU stated that decision to participate in the protest was taken at an “extraordinary meeting” of the union on April 24. At the meeting, the house unanimously resolved to request all the members of DMWTU and all transport workers to join the strike on April 30 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
