Public sensitised on legal rights

A one-day legal awareness seminar was organized by Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) on March 12, at Government Higher Secondary School, Chozuba town.
At the seminar programme, District and Session judge, GH Ramlia, spoke on the importance of legal services authority and said that the constitution of India through Article 14 guaranteed equality before law and equal protection of laws.
He said it was not sufficient that law treats all persons equally irrespective of the prevalent inequalities, but law must function in such a way that all the people have access to justice inspite of economic disparities.
PDLSA member Akole Mero spoke on protection of women from domestic violence and right if arrested, while panel lawyers namely Ashu Theyo, spoke on ‘Juvenile Justice Act,’ Pfukhrulhi on ‘Consumer Protection Act’ and Vezokho Nyekha on ‘Right to Information.’
The programme was chaired by panel lawyer Ashu Theyo. Students, leaders from various villages, administrative bodies and NGOs attended the seminar.
In a related programme, a one-day legal awareness seminar was organized by Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) on March 10 at St Mary High School, Seyochung, with District and Session Judge, GH Ramlia, APP Sentila Aier and panel lawyer, Hotingkyu, as resource persons.
In the seminar, Ramlia highlighted the objectives and role of district legal service authority and challenged the gathering to be aware of their rights. As every individual is equal before law, he said everyone is free from discrimination in the society.
APP Sentila also spoke on the rights of consumer protection and rights of arrested persons, while panel lawyer Hotingkyu spoke on the right to information and protection from domestic violence.
Altogether 200 delegates from different social organizations and students of Seyochung town attended the seminar programme.
The programme was chaired by head DB Seyochung, Tsithrongto, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Para legal volunteer, Lichumse.
