Three houses were completely gutted down by the fire at Yongam village under Tamlu Sub-Division of Longleng district on March 14 around 11:30 a.m. however no loss of life was reported.
According to reports, the fire broke out from the kitchen of one certain household when the family members went to the paddy field leaving the fireplace unattended. As soon as the news of devastating fire was reported, the district administration, Longleng Police, 31st Assam Rifles Longleng post, PPC, PSC and public rushed to the spot to control the inferno from spreading to neighboring villages. It took nearly four hours to bring down the fire preventing it to spread any further and causing more damages to the village. The properties destroyed were estimated to be more than ten lakh.
