Health workers sensitised on swine flu H1N1 in Phek

A seminar on swine flu (H1N1) was organised by Hospital Management Society, Phek, where the officers and staff of District Hospital, Phek, were updated with facts and statistics about the epidemic at national and state level.
Senior paediatrician, Dr. Wethselo Tsuhah, spoke on epidemiology, clinical features, treatment, preventive measures and how to deal with suspected cases at pre hospital and hospital level. He stressed on the importance of everyday actions to protect health by washing hands, covering mouth and nose during cough or sneezing, avoiding touching of eyes, nose or mouth, avoiding contact with sick people, avoiding crowded places and unnecessary travels.
Also speaking during the seminar, senior pathologist, Dr. Rongsen Longkumer, who spoke on investigations, how to collect samples under full personal protection equipments and transporting samples for testing.
Dr. Rongsen briefed the staff on the standard operating procedures and also to strictly follow guidelines on infection control measures during pre hospital care and in hospital care.
With isolation ward for H1N1 flu, informed staff and equipments in place, it appealed the public to remain calm and be vigilant and promptly seek medical help when sick.
The programme was well attended by staff from hospital and different vertical health programmes who were encouraged not to panic but remain alert and spread the facts about viral swine flu in the community.
