Following the arrest of three criminals by Special branch Dimapur, reportedly belonging to an inter-state gang involved in the abduction and killing of two minor boys, Assam police Monday arrested the fourth person reportedly one of the key accused from Diphu. However, the fifth accused was still absconding, Dimapur police sources said.
The minors, both school students, were abducted from Dimapur on July 28 and killed on August 3 at a place between Diphu and Lumding in Assam.
Assam police arrest the key accused identified as Muna. He was arrested based on the revelation of the three accused who were arrested by Special branch Dimapur on Saturday night from Dimapur railway station when they came to collect ransom money.
It was learnt that Muna would now be brought to Dimapur from Diphu after police formalities were complete. According to Dimapur police, all the accused arrested and the one who was still absconding were operating in Nagaland and Assam for their criminal activities.
Meanwhile, Dimapur police has now brought back one of the bodies of the minors. The other minor was reportedly buried in Diphu. The gang members demanded rupees six lakh from the parents of one of the minors and later on it was negotiated to Rs. 50,000.
It may be mentioned that three accused under Dimapur police custody identified as Adbul Munan, Kubir Uddin both from Karimganj, Assam and Bikash Barman from Bihar.
They were reportedly involved in number of kidnappings and killings in and around Dimapur. Two minors, the first one a class VIII student and the second one who was also reportedly involved in the same kidnapping case were killed by the abductors between Diphu and Lumding. The minors, residents of Zakiesatuo colony went missing on July 28.
DMPF condemns
Dim\\apur Muslim Public Forum (DMPF) has strongly condemned the abduction and killing of two minors. DMPF has demanded “capital punishment” to the culprits to set an example to other criminals.
In a statement, DMPF general secretary G.M. Babar said the heinous crime committed by those involved must be condemned. He said that the culprits have no place in a civilized society. DMPF also lauded Dimapur police for their excellent work in apprehending the culprits.
