Hornbill Bamboo Carnival commences

Coinciding with the ongoing Hornbill Festival, a three-day Hornbill Bamboo Carnival got underway at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Center (NBRC), 6th Mile, Sovima, Dimapur on theme “Bamboo, art, food & music” organized by NBRC.
MLA & Chairman Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) Amenda Yaden who formally launched the carnival at Green Circle (Bamboo Amphitheatre), NBRC said that the sole objective of organizing the carnival was to create awareness for all the sections and the new technological advancements that are taking place around the world.
Stressing on the importance of bamboo, Yaden explained that bamboo has been an integral part of Naga life which continues to play a predominant role even today in every walk of life ranging from agriculture tools, implementing shelter, food and livelihood.
Yaden stated that timber has been the gift from nature since the inception, but due to human greed and negligence of natural resources they are scarce and the forest resources are depleting year by year though it takes years to replenish them. However, he said we have alternate nature’s bounty resource in bamboo which is the fastest growing plant in the world and can be harvested in 4-6 years. He justified that bamboo forest plays an important role in carbon cycle when all over the world have been alarmed by the threats of climate change.  
Yaden further said when Nagaland celebrates Hornbill festival, we have every reason to celebrate the nature’s gift of bamboo. He wished all the participants and visitors to celebrate the nature’s gift and human’s talent to tape the bamboo food, art and music to the fullest extent.
A three-day carnival is showcasing various bamboo items of indigenous products, ‘Chimono’ fete, bamboo crafts/arts, bamboo shoot, bamboo furniture, organic delicacy, flowers, indigenous food/fast Food and many other stalls run by individual, entrepreneurs and self help group. The event will also be featuring live music to be performed every evening from 3 p.m. by fourteen bands under the internally acclaimed Alobo Naga and Semper Soul from USA. The organizers are also presenting exciting fun and games at Bambusa and Bamboo Children’s park.
