Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Dimapur Government College (AKTDGC) organized its first cultural seminar on September 22 at its college campus with pastor of Nahorjan Ao Baptist Church, Karbi Anglong, Assam Mar Longkumer as the resource person.
Longkumer said during forefathers’ time, “Morung” was an institution centre where young people (both boys and girls) learned about their culture and tradition.
However, on the contrary, he said today’s generation go outside to seek education and tend to forget their own roots.
He deliberated on how Aos were fond of festivals during forefathers time, but with the advent of Christianity, they gradually decided to do away with the small festivals and focused only on the two major festivals – “Tsungremmong” and Moatsu”.
He encouraged students not to forsake their culture but to inculcate one’s own culture and tradition.
Earlier, the programme included cultural presentation from students and seminar attended by more than 150 Ao students, ex-advisors, lecturers, college students’ council and Tenyimia students union.
