NGOs under Dimapur district working in the field of disability had a networking meeting on January 25 at Deaf Biblical ministry, Naharbari.
The objective of the meeting was to form a network amongst all the active NGOs or societies working for disabled.
The emergence of forming this network is to build a strong networking and referral system amongst the service providers and also to provide comprehensive service to the People with Disabilities (PWDs) and to raise issues related to disabilities in the districts and in the state.
The network aims at strengthening and improving the living conditions of the PWDs and thus having ‘One Voice’ to meet the needs and challenges faced by PWDs.
The NGOs officially resolved to form a network and has been coined as “Network for People with Disabilities” (NPWD).
The network nominated Maong Jamir of Prodigals’ Home as president, Arenla of Special Olympics Bharat Nagaland as secretary, Rev. Yanger Walling of Deaf Biblical Ministry as treasurer and executive members are – Wekakhro of People in Need Foundation, Toshi of Development Association of Nagaland and Katia of Prodigals’ Home.
The NPWD- Dimapur District also encouraged all the NGOs working in the field of disabilities from the rest of the districts to form its district level network and added it would call for a state level networking meeting by the month of March.
