Parliamentary secretary for school education Yitachu Tuesday urged all the stakeholders of education sector for a change in mindset to bring out the best from government schools in the state.
Addressing a function after inaugurating the new sub-divisional education officer (SDEO) office here, Yitachu said the school education department, with over 27,000 employees, incurred the highest expenditure. He however lamented that the return in terms of productivity was “below expectation”.
Asserting teachers of today expected the best out of their children but at the same time often tend to neglect other people’s children, the parliamentary termed such disparity as “going against Christian principle and values”, which should not be exhibited in their service.
Further, lamenting that certain teachers made teaching a “stopgap” arrangement, Yitachu said teachers should perform the best of their efforts for the children’s future no matter how long they remained in service.
The parliamentary secretary said government was trying to set things right including service conditions, teachers’ prospects and streamlining of teachers wherever shortage or excess of teachers were prevalent.
Also, speaking at the function, parliamentary secretary for irrigation & flood control and election, Vikheho Swu said the Naga society today have lost the values of dignity of labour and people who worked and ate were now looked down.
Pointing out that such concept was alien to Naga society, Swu urged the teachers and village education committees to be sincere and committed as education department dealt directly with the human resource development.
School education director Zaveyi Nyekha and joint director R.Angami also addressed the gathering.
The function was chaired by SDEO Pughoboto Watisangla while the welcome address was delivered by Nokchasashi, ADC Pughoboto. Earlier, the new SDEO office was dedicated with a prayer by SABAK executive secretary Rev.Hotokhu Zhimo, after which it was inaugurated by parliamentary secretary Yitachu in the presence of departmental officers, GBs, elders and leaders of Pughoboto town.
