Against the backdrop of NSF’s appeal to postpone state-wide youth rally on clean election, Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) youth department Friday affirmed it would go ahead with the rally as scheduled November 3.
In a press release, NBCC youth secretary Vikuo Rhi, however, apologised for any confusion that the proposed rally may have caused, saying that they did not have any intention to discredit any upcoming Naga political solution.
In addition, youth secretary said NBCC did not have any other interests or hidden agenda to support or stand against any political party.
“Our sole purpose is to tell the truth, to fight for the truth, to stand for the truth and to bring about a positive change in our society,” said Rhi, adding that they would do it by praying, participating and educating the people that election was the right means of choosing the right leaders to lead the people.
NBCC, therefore, appealed to all the associations to kindly go ahead with the rally as scheduled, for which it also requested full support from well-wishers.
Meanwhile, NBCC youth department has expressed gratitude to all the public, Church, tribal, administrative and civil bodies and NGOs who have been supporting the clean election campaign.
Correspondent adds:
Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has decided to stay away from participating at the “youth rally on clean election” scheduled Saturday.
Speaking to this correspondent, NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome reiterated that the student body was not against the NBCC’s initiative but expressed apprehension that the proposed rally could be misconstrued by people involved in the process on Naga political talk.
Yhome said people would misinterpret the Naga people on whether the state was prepared for a solution or an election.
Therefore, he said NSF had suggested the organizers to postpone the rally, adding that the focus was now on “solution” and not “election.”
NSF president however did not object the youth department of NBCC in going ahead with the rally but said the students would not participate at the proposed rally.
