Consultation on food security held in Meluri

A day long consultation programme on food security was held on December 12 at Meluri Town Hall, which was jointly organized by Social Welfare Society for Rural Development (SOWSORD) and Pochury Public Forum (PPF).
Senior coordinator, North East India, CASA, Lesehu Meru, spoke on the subject of National Food Security Act. 2013 and also encouraged the participants to create an awareness education on the Act and to give cooperation and support to the state government for proper implementation of the Act.
He later stressed on the “Rights to Food” and concept of food security, its availability, accessibility with partnership power and production of food grains and further also encouraged the church members present in the programme for “Prophetic” ministry citing the example of Joseph. Who had saved the lives of Egyptian during its seven years of famine.
Noklang field officer, CASA, in-charge, Nagaland, highlighted about the issue of present trend of food insecurity and emphasized on the various schemes of the government including Target Public Distribution System (TPOS), National Family Benefit Schemes (NFPS, National Old Age Pension Schemes (NOAPS), Mid-Day Meal (MDM) and Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
SOWSORD director, Rev. L.C Puli, presented survey data collection of the village wise under Social Security Schemes implemented under Meluri sub-division.
It was also decided to organize a consultation programme with issues based on food insecurity which would be jointly organized by PPF, PMA and SOWSORD.
