Mokokchung to witness ‘festive celebrations’ in Dec

Come December and Mokokchung will shed its tag of a sleepy and monotonous town and transform itself into bustling town full of events this festive season.

Citizens of Mokokchung can expect to witness many exciting events as Mokokchung District Art & Culture Council (MDACC) would be hosting month long celebrations starting December 1.

This celebration is in commemoration of the Statehood 50 years and MDACC silver jubilee celebration.
Revealing this during a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Deputy Commissioner’s office chamber, MDACC  officials disclosed that series of events are being lined up to commemorate the jubilee celebration through the active support and cooperation of the district administration, different government departments and NGOs. They exuded hope that these exciting events would add fervor to the coming festive season.

Among the many events that are being line up, the M-Fest will be the mega event which would be hold for three days and nights.

The celebration would kick start with the month long Silver Jubilee celebration of MDACC as part of the district’s statehood golden jubilee celebration on December 1.

Second event on the calendar is the ‘Night bazaar’ at MMC Shopping complex wherein horti, agri and fisheries departments will have sales and exhibition stalls, besides food courts, children’s program etc would be held and side shows around the venue by various organizations.

On December 12, a music task force night with day events is being proposed for which the MDACC has already approached MTF for the same.

“Mokokchung Nite” will be held on December 13 which would include dance, skit, and songs along with day events.

Finale of the Naga Orpheus Hunt would be held on December 14 along with other day events; all these events would be held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex.  Entry for the first two events will be free.

The traditional cake race and midnight service events of Mokokchung would also be undertaken by the MDACC as part of the silver jubilee celebration.

The annual cake race would be held on December 24 at the main traffic point followed by inter-ward skit competition.

Midnight service on December 31 would also be held at main traffic point and the culmination of the jubilee celebration of MDACC in February 2014.
