In about a month from now the MR campaign is well underway in our State of Nagaland.
Statistics show that 7 Lakh children are targeted in Nagaland of the 410 million children in India,
The reason given is to eradicate Measles and Rubella once and for all. It seems that this attempt has been made for years and the final target is 2020. Nagaland seems to be the State with only 53-58 % showing up compared to the over 95 percent government target between 9 months and 15 years they plan to vaccinate.
What are the concerns? Those who want you to vaccinate their child( although the children have no choice in the matter) and those who don’t want to vaccinate their kids or have concerns to do so.
First advice to any reader: do not get in fear, do your homework ,get informed.
You do have a choice. The children don’t. But they-and their moms- might end up with possible lifelong consequences after it is all done.
The rumour says it that if you do not vaccinate you will most likely get measles or rubella, you will not get a job, not be able to get in schools, you now become a threat to other kids .
The other side says if you do vaccinate the possibility of vaccine side effects can be disastrous because of the many other ingredients that can be toxic, cause cancer, brain defect and cause other short term and long term effects esp for pregnant women.
Who do you believe?
Anyone with a smart phone can now easily do their own research. Look on the insert of the vaccine ( downloadable from the CDC and FDA dept in the USA, applicable here) where all side effects and those who definitely should not take it , are mentioned. Eg, the insert of MR mentions that if women are pregnant, they should not take this and if they plan to have children not to get pregnant three months after the MR vaccine.
The deeper issue:
Are we allowed to ask questions or give unbiased correct information that could avoid medical conditions ? Can we ask if a court order was given? If this is mandatory why do parents have to give consent?
If it is “pro or anti-vaccine”, why not say “pro-medicine or anti-medicine” or “pro-blood test or anti-blood test”? Or is it pro-choice or no choice?
Maybe the deeper issue is: can we make an educated choice ? But where is the info we need? Can we properly educate the people, esp those who cannot read, about the pros and cons of this vaccine which according to the insert should be done by health care workers? Have both sides been presented?

What can you do?
1/ -Stay calm, start informing yourself, and stay healthy. Pray over the vaccine if you do take it! You are allowed to!
2/-Inform yourself regarding the legal rights you have regarding this issue. Decide calmly!
3/- Strengthen your child’s immune system through clean water , sanitation good nutrition .Washing hands properly eradicates 50 percent of getting any disease. One lemon a day with peel or one quava will boost their immune-system,

Not vaccinating can mean Measles or Rubella. By isolation , proper care and nutrition your child can get over it quickly. The chance of your child dying of it is 1 in 8635. The chance of getting Rubella is 1 in
13 666. Leaflets of the campaign quote 49 000 and 30 000 but it is not compared with 410 million Indian children . Do your math.
When you choose to vaccinate, the risks for vaccine injury are mentioned in the insert . Example brain related injuries and anaphylactic shock. There are 42 paragraphs devoted to possible reactions and precautions
Do you know if you are exempted according to the guidelines?
Only you will bear the consequences because you can’t blame anyone. Not vaccinating and the slight chance of getting measles and rubella will get you: “we told you”. Benefit of getting measles is lifelong immunity ( However the insert says you can get measles from the vaccine itself as well. Lifelong immunity not guaranteed)
Will there be “ perfect immunity”? If your immune system is smart enough to recognize that the mutant virus in the vaccine is the same as the “wild virus” you might possibly encounter, maybe. Why do boosters have to be given if it is for life and has that fact of lifelong immunity been proven?
If you do vaccinate and the child or you end up with a vaccine related injury, there is no one to blame either because the vaccine is given for free and you accepted it.
Do your home work first before speaking out. Then when you speak out, stay humble, stay polite, but if you are convinced either way, say so.
Avoid getting angry, violent, being obnoxious . Health care workers and media reporters are told to stay calm. So can you whether you decide for or against. Stand up calmly for your rights.
Most in these campaigns are well meaning, caring and polite but they themselves might not have adequately been informed and presume the best.
Do we have the right to inform people with the correct info so people can make an educated choice?
Keep up with the West? Let’s start with clean water and clean sanitation and good nutrition for all citizens. That could eliminate a whole lot of problems and sickness right there!
