Nagaland along with the rest of the country is celebrating the 9th National Voters’ Day today in the state capital Kohima and in all the districts and sub divisions.  The National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year on the 25th of January to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. The day serves to celebrate the right to vote and the vibrant and beautiful democracy of ours. The day is also utilized to spread awareness among the voters to get enrolled and understand their responsibility to participate effectively in the entire electoral process.

While the entire Election Department throughout the state is organizing befitting programmes for the celebration of the day which includes among other activities, felicitation of newly registered young voters and recognizing those people who have contributed in improving the electoral practices; all the other Government Departments and Offices would also be organizing functions in their respective offices and undertaking the National Voters’ Day Pledge. The theme of the 9th National Voters’ Day is “No voter to be Left Behind”. An appeal is made to all the eligible citizens, and particularly the youth, women, persons with disabilities (PwDs), domestic migrant labourers and the marginalized groups and segments to come forward to register their names in the electoral roll and exercise their franchise in the elections. Everyone is also urged to uphold the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement
Let the National Voters’ Day serve as a reminder to all of their responsibility to dedicate themselves for greater participation in the electoral process leading to a stronger and more inclusive democracy.

    Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland: Kohima
