At the very outset, let me clarify myself that I am not in favour with any political party and I am not belonging to any party but I wrote this article with the perspective of the common people whom I encounter with and this particular issue is being talked by many people whom I met. The next general election is knocking at our door and this is the time where political parties wake up from sleep to fight heart and soul in order to rule India or to form a government at the center. Similarly Nagaland political parties are fully prepared for the general election and lots of rallies and campaigns are going on within the state. Government servants are being placed to different places for election duty and thus the state is fully prepared for it. However, my main point in this article is not about the state’s preparation for election but, who will be the Good Leader from Nagaland?
Reading the news report in the Nagaland Post (March 20, 2019) on the topic “Rio taunts NPF ‘visionless policies” I was quite shocked with the way our Chief Minister spoke during the Lok Sabha campaign at DDSC stadium where he said ‘NPF is a party with visionless policies and unstable leadership’. He also said that they are going to borrow a candidate from the other party in spite of having 26 MLAs in the State Legislative Assembly. In fact, he said that since the party has no proper candidate they are slightly in favour of supporting the Congress. The intelligent people will surely knew what he meant if they read between the lines about the sentence our Chief Minister uttered. The regional party (NPF) will find difficult to fight against a party alliance with the National party (BJP and PDA) while if they (NPF) too alliance with a National party such as Congress the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) under the leadership of our Chief Minister will find difficult to win the election. Let me mention that the people of Nagaland has chosen PDA candidate, TokhehoYepthomi as their MP during the last MP Bye- election in the state, however when the Citizenship Bill passed in the Lok Sabha the news said that this particular leader was not present in the Lok Sabha, this shows how our leaders are when they are in power. It is so unfortunate that those days the whole Northeast is burning with the passing of this particular Bill known as CAB, while our own leader was unaware of it. Thus, who will be the Good Leader from Nagaland, is it he or many others? This is a good refection for the citizens of Nagaland, if he is the best then continue to vote for him.
The NDPP party under the leadership of our Chief Minister Rio promised for a change during the last state election campaign yet till date no changes has happen , I do not know where are the changes taken place, many roads remain the same and unemployment for the youth is increasing day by day. However, we see that our leaders are busy pointing fingers at each other for several issues especially when election comes and the state is never developed. Nagaland needs a good leader, who can govern the state properly for it is a land of lots of potentialities such as Land of Festivals, Tourist spots, Scenic Beauty, and many other historical places. It is very sad that leader whom we voted to represent the state or the constituency never foresee the good of the state and the region as a result lots of unemployment and no development taking place in the state. Let me also mention that the state is no doubt has a high literacy rate comparing to other states in Northeast India, nevertheless why students from Nagaland go to different parts of our country for higher studies. Of course I believe that the state cannot provide with all the requirements of the different educational systems. Hence, this is not my point of view but my issue is how many outside students pursuing the higher studies in the state as other states would provide. Therefore, let us stop pointing finger at each other but let us work for the development of the state. Thus, to achieve this we need a good leader in the state as well as in the center (Parliament). As a result, who will be the Good Leader from Nagaland?
