IT sets up 24×7 control rooms

To deal with any reported movement of unaccounted money ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the Income Tax Department (Investigation) North Eastern Region (NER) has opened a 24×7 control room and complaint monitoring cell in all the seven states of North Eastern Region.

In a press release, principal director of IT (investigation) NER informed the public to communicate any information pertaining to black money and movement of large amount of cash/valuables etc. during the election period, which were likely to be used for bribing of electors.

 Further, surveillance teams have been deployed in all the seven states besides Air Intelligence Units in all airports of seven states.

The income tax department is also working in close coordination with various teams constituted under CEO/DEOs and other law enforcement agencies.

As per the direction of the Election Commission of India, the department is continuously gathering intelligence and keeping close surveillance over the movement of cash/valuables or other items suspected to be used for bribing of electors during the ensuing Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Earlier, a total of 116 officers and inspectors of the Income Tax department was deputed to the directorate of Income Tax (Investigation) for the upcoming elections in the North East. The directorate has also issued deployment orders to 157 officials who will spread over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
