Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) has sought clarification from National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on the present status four-lane road project between Dimapur and Kohima (NH-29).
In a letter addressed to the general manager NHIDCL Dimapur, CPO president Vichütuolie Mere and general secretary Mhiesisato Vüprü drew attention to the degeneration of the Dimapur-Kohima road as “dirt off-road or river-bed condition road” at so many locations since the project began. CPO further lamented that the ongoing road work does not seem to be nearing completion in any part of the whole stretch of the National Highway. The signatories added that this has caused huge damage and loss to public and demanded a public response to several issues.
One was that NHIDCL identify who were responsible for damage and maintenance of the Dimapur-Kohima road which has turned hazardous and causing untold suffering on public and commuters.
CPO also demanded to know as to who- NHIDCL or contractor(s) was responsible for accidents caused by negligence in the maintenance of the Dimapur-Kohima road?
It also asked whether public safety was assured in the 4-lane project and if yes, then what steps were being taken by NHIDCL?
CPO asked who was responsible-NHIDCL or contractor(s) for causing pollution and adverse travel conditions on the road for both public and commuters?
CPO demanded to know what was the scheduled time period for completion of the 4-lane project?
CPO asked the NHIDCL to take its demands seriously with appropriate response since public have been suffering due to negligence and lack of responsibility after the 4-lane works began. CPO also opined that the work could take few more years to complete and in the meantime, asked NHIDCL to undertake necessary measures for public safety failing which it(CPO) would be compelled to resort to drastic action in the interest of public safety
CPO has also requested the NHIDCL to reply to its letter at the earliest for information of the public otherwise, it would demand enquiry through appropriate agencies.
