Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) organised a mass destruction programme of illegal drugs and other psychotropic substances on March 21 at its office in the presence of district administration, district executive force, Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) and committee on drugs addiction mitigation and prevention (CoDAMP).
A press release from KSU action chairman, Shaboh Winkangshu and action secretary, Nyemwang stated that, items were seized during the operation conducted by the joint action committee against drug abuse and supply spearheaded by KSU, formed under the aegis of the Konyak frontal organization’s declaration of “War against drug”.
Highlighting the problem of drug abuse and its adverse effect on the users and to the Konyak society, the KSU said that Mon district being located at international and state borders, smuggling of such illegal drug was rampant and many youngsters have been exposed to the social evil. Union vowed to fight against it tooth and nail till it was completely eliminated.
KSU also appealed to all the concern authorities, individuals and well wishers to support and co-operate with the union and join hands in its fight against drug. Union further appealed to all its sub-ordinate units to be alert and carry on the operation in their respective jurisdiction and strictly adhere to the directive order from the union. Union has also warned the suppliers/peddlers of stern action.
