Aboi Town Students’ Union (ATSU) has expressed disappointment over the absenteeism of government employees posted at Aboi Town resulting in “immense hardship” and inconvenience to the public.

In a press release, ATSU vice president, Wangngam Konyak and general secretary, N Manwoak Konyak stated that while government employees are expected to discharge their assigned duties with utmost sincerity and commitment, it has been reported that most of the government offices at Aboi Town remained closed “indefinitely”.

The union claimed that many government employees have not been at their place of posting, which has now become a matter of public concern. In this connection, ATSU has requested the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Aboi to initiate necessary action to ensure that all government employees are at their place of posting and attend offices regularly. The union also asked the ADC to implement the fundamental guideline of “no work, no pay” at the earliest on priority. Further, ATSU has informed all government employees to immediately report to the station and warned that the union would be conducting surprise inspection and those employees found absent without leave from appropriate authority would “face the wrath of the union”.

The union also cautioned to publish the names of the erring employees in local dailies and demand disciplinary action against them.
