Dimapur-based civil society organisations (CSOs) have appealed to CSOs and administration of different districts to make logistical arrangements for receiving their own residents and provide facilities for quarantining them at their respective districts after being deported from the State’s commercial here. This, they claimed, was meant to secure people of Dimapur from the COVID-19 pandemic.
At an emergency meeting held on May 22 to deliberate on the arrival of stranded citizens at Dimapur from different parts of India, some en route to different districts, and accommodating all of them, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur and GBs’ Union Dimapur leaders said District Task Force Dimapur, district administration, CSOs and NGOs were giving their best since Day-one to ensure safety of everyone.
However, they observed that resources and quarantine centres had been exhausted and were now overflowing with inmates as they had taken people much beyond their actual capacity. Hence, they resolved to issue the appeal. Mentioning that every district was provided with funds for combating COVID-19, the meeting appealed to all other districts to receive their citizens and ensure that their “own children” were not left behind.
As Dimapur had its own share of challenges and would have to accommodate its own citizens, sharing the load of other districts would be a huge burden, the CSOs pointed out.
They also urged citizens not to panic and stay home for their own safety.
