In these extraordinary and trying times of lockdown, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people from various walks of life have been facing untold hardships, due to the scarcity of basic amenities. The hardest hit is the daily wage earners, mostly comprising of the legal migrant labourers, who do not have equal opportunities as the local few for basic amenities like food, water and shelter.
At such a unique circumstance, AEO and a deacon of MTBA, Alemtemsu Longkumer of Penli Ward, came up with the philanthropic notion, to forgo rent of 14 of his tenants, till the crisis was over.
This was followed by the COVID-19 community kitchen, an initiative of the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) in collaboration with the district administration, to provide free meals to the hungry from 11 a.m to 1 p.m daily at the MTBA church premises.
Then, there is also the “home delivery system app”, innovated by Ato A Longkumer & Trail Hounds and adopted by the district administration, functioning affectively under the supervision of EAC Sentilong.
Moreover, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, with the active permission from the district administration, has been doing the rounds, in providing immediate rations to most downtrodden families, in the 18 wards of the town. Then came along another philanthropist, an entrepreneur and daily water supplier who simply want to be known just by his first name Kilem has been providing water free of cost to residents, comprising of more than 40 non-local families of Middle Penli Ward, Mokokchung.
