Since the nationwide lockdown, government agencies and other civil organizations have been extending assistance to needy households with relief rations.
STMS Dimapur relief: St. Thomas Mission Society Dimapur, during its fourth phase of “food for security” COVID-19 programme had distributed food kits to lockdown affected student’s families and all the staffs of MGHHSS & MGM College. A press release from STMS Fr. Dr. P. S. Varghese stated that mission society members along with church members maintaining safety measures packed and distributed food kits to the students and staff staying in areas of SEWAK Colony, Rio Colony, Sachu Colony, Burma Camp, Land Mark Colony, Lotha Colony, Viola Colony, Residency Colony, Fellowship Colony, PWD and Midland. During this phase of distribution, the society reached out to 120 beneficiaries, 35 students of MGMHSS, all the staffs of MGM College & MGM HSS.
NUFC and DCFC relief assistance: Naga United FC (NUFC) in collaboration with Dimapur City FC (DCFC) provided relief assistance under its project “NUFC Cares” to Tito Yepthomi, president of Dimapur District Auto Drivers Union to help the needy drivers and their effected families. A press release from NUFC Cares coordinator Shiyeto Wotsa stated that, auto drivers are totally affected and during this period and without daily wages it has become impossible for them to look after their families.
SEWA assists: Self Employment Women Association (SEWA) Shamator led by C. Tsurila Yimchunger field co-ordinator North East Network and field mobiliser SEWA Shamator reached out to the needy people. According to DIPR report, currently there are 58 SEWA volunteers doing labour and small business in Shamator.
