Zarü stream at Mima village under Kohima district has given a ray of hope to the citizens. once the project is fully functional, it would ease the scarcity of water supply to the state capital.

The scheme for augmentation of water supply to the state capital Kohima was taken up under 90:10 funding under the ministry of Urban Development, GoI. According to the PHED administrative report, the project involves pumping of water from Zarü stream to a reservoir at Kigwema village through two stages of pumping. From the reservoir, water will be supplied to Kohima by gravity and the design capacity of the project was to provide 3.80 million liters per day.

Main infrastructure was completed and the distribution system was under execution.   Advisor of Urban and Municipal Affairs Dr. Nicky Kire inspected the site at Kigwema and Zarü transit pump.

Since some leakage was found, Dr. Kire said the pipe from Zarü stream to Kigwema needed to be repaired and once completed, water can be supplied to Kohima town.
