KVK Peren, Jalukie in collaboration with ICAR Res. complex for NER, Nagaland centre, Jharnapani conducted training on seed production technology of lowland rice and seed village programme at Beisumpuikam village on May 18.
A press release from KVK Peren programme coordinator stated that, during the programme, production technology including seed treatment, nursery and field preparation, line sowing, weeding, fertilizer application, etc for lowland paddy seed production was discussed by Dr. Harendra Verma, scientist plant breeding & genetics, ICAR Jharnapani.
Dr Patu K. Zeliang, ACTO, plant breeding & genetics, KVK Peren delivered a topic on seed village concept wherein she encouraged the farmers to organise seed production in cluster or compact area and to replace existing local varieties with new high yielding varieties to meet local demand for timely supply at reasonable rate.
Earlier, one quintal of rice variety RCM 9, a high yielding variety tolerant to blast with maximum potential yield of 8.2 t/ha developed from ICAR Manipur centre was distributed to 12 selected farmers including four women farmers for starting seed production.
Meanwhile, a farmer-scientist interaction was conducted where queries on cultivation practices of various kharif crops like paddy, sesame, bajra maize etc were discussed.
