The second phase of biannual national deworming day was observed in Nagaland on October 19, targeting children within age group of 1-19 years.
Longleng: District Health Society (DHS) Longleng commemorated the day at community hall, Bhumnyu village.
A press release by CMO office Longleng, stated while delivering keynote address, DPO (RCH/UIP), Dr Imnameren Phom spoke on the importance of deworming.
He spoke on health benefits of deworming and that it improved a child’s immunity which in turn protects him/her from chronic illnesses caused by worms.
He said that it also improve concentration, increases nutritional uptakes and controls infection such as anaemia, loose bowels etc.
Dr Imnameren Phom explained in detail about roundworm and hookworm cycle, and how to prevent worm infestation.
He encouraged everyone to wash their hands properly before eating anything after using toilet, to keep their nails short as much as possible to prevent further infections, to cover fruits and vegetables and to keep their surroundings clean.
Meanwhile, CMO Dr. Obangjungla administered the first albendazole tablets after a short speech. The deworming tablets will be distributed in all 11 wards in the district, for which a team of seven groups have been formed. NDD was observed in all health units.
Wokha: In Wokha, the programme was observed at GHSS Anganwadi Centre Wokha, launched by district programme manager (NHM) Mhonbeni Ezung.
A press release by CMO office Wokha stated that, Mhobeni during the launching informed the main objective of the programme was to help children reduce transmission of parasitic intestinal worm infection and y improve the nutritional status and overall growth.
MO, RBSK Dr. Kuokholie Savino, highlighted on importance of administering de-worming tablets to children on periodic basis as it prevented reinfection and morbidities in children.
He informed that a total of 33,778 children approximately between 1 to 19 years of age will be given albendazole tablets in 354 Anganwadi Centres across the district.
