Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has reiterated its serious concern over imposition of COVID-19 cess on petrol and diesel and appealed to the State government to withdraw it.
Urging the government to be more responsible and not rely on the public to meet financial exigencies at this crucial juncture, DNSU observed that due to the extraordinary situation, transportation cost and prices of essential items have already witnessed an abnormal hike in both urban and rural areas, affecting the public.
DNSU reminded the government that business establishments were now in full operation, while the State was receiving sufficient funds from the Central government to curb COVID-19 pandemic. The union thus reasoned that it was not necessary any longer to continue with the cess on petrol and diesel.
DNSU urged the government to listen to the plea of the people and understand their hardships and revoke the cess on fuel immediately. It warned that failure on the part of the government to act on this issue would compel it to stage protests. DNSU alos urged all civil society organisations to join hands on this issue.
