With the ongoing economic blockade entering the third week, Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has appealed to the presidents of Assam-based student organizations to lift the blockade at NH-702 D (Mariani-Mokokchung Road) at the earliest in the best interest of maintaining peace and rebuilding business relations.
In a press note, MCCI president Tsukti Longkumer and general secretary Limalenden Longkumer said that the blockade, which has been imposed since November 15, will only multiply the problems and destabilize the economy of both states.
While not denying that Assam and Nagaland have had unresolved border disputes, MCCI said it required political will to solve the border issue, adding, imposing economic blockades was not the solution.
Expressing regret that the state governments of Assam and Nagaland have not been able to solve the border issue till date, MCCI instead suggested to exert pressure on the respective state governments to solve the problem at the earliest, while also working towards building people-to-people relations as good neighbours and improve business, trade and economic ties for mutual benefit.
For this, MCCI said that lifting of the economic blockade was the way forward. Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry opined that the status of trade and commerce relations between the neighbours will be a key factor in determining the solution to the long drawn border problem.
