
As residents of the State continue to bear the brunt of poor mobile connectivity, Planning & Coordination, Land revenue and Parliamentary Affairs minister, Neiba Kronu has dashed off a letter to Union Ministry of Communication.
In his letter addressed to Union minister Electronics & Information Technology, Telecommunications Ravi Shankar Prasad on March 15, Kronu stated that the mobile network was very poor in the State, adding that it was becoming worse day by day. For the past few months, he said that the people were facing a lot of difficulties in using their mobile phones.
While the students and teaching community were facing problem while conducting online classes, banks, post offices, transport agencies, etc, were also badly affected due to the erratic network.
Pointing out that the subscribers could not download important files, converse properly or make calls and hardly make transactions in banks, Neiba Kronu said this was hampering the day-to-day activities, because of which the people were mulling to come out to street for agitation.In this regard, Kronu urged the Union minister to look into the matter and do the needful for improving mobile and interne services in the State.
It may be recalled that the mobile network operators in Dimapur– Jio, Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone and Idea (now VI) in February this year assured to provide quality service to its customers immediately.
The assurance was given during a coordination meeting that Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) leaders held with representatives of the mobile network operators.
The meeting followed an appeal made by the union on January 11 to all service providers to ensure quality internet service amidst the online exams in the State, DNSU media cell stated.
In this regard, DNSU has asked the students and teachers to send their location and the name of the network service providers via WhatsApp at the following helpline numbers if they faced any network issue– 8794399471, 9089517081, 7005836154, 9862531781.
The union assured to take prompt and appropriate action within 24 hours upon receiving the complaints.
