Dimapur police in its pre-quarterly report for the period January 1 to March 16, 2021 issued on Tuesday said that 19 individuals were arrested in connection with extortion related case and seized Rs. 31,10,515.
Accordingly 13 cases were registered and the seized items forwarded to district court, police said, adding the seizure and arrests were made by district police and Assam Rifles.
In a press note, ADCP (Crime)/PRO Dimapur police further said that the police on Monday arrested two individuals identified as one Kughato Swu (34) and Inaka Achumi (35) while extorting money from a business establishment at 4th Mile area in the name of FGN. Police also seized Rs.2000 and two mobile handset from their possession and registered a case at Diphupar Police Station.
On March 16, police said that one person– Dilip Basumatary (32) was arrested for illegal transportation of IMFL in one Alto (NL 01P 5847). Altogether 17 cases IMFL was seized and a case registered at Chümoukedima Police Station.
On March 13, police along with 5th Assam Rifles rescued two persons- a truck driver and an employee of a private transport agency from Thilixu village area after they were reportedly abducted by unknown persons from Purana Bazaar area. In this regard, a case has been registered in Diphupar police station. PRO also informed that mobile armed escorts were being provided to commercial trucks at the inter-state checkgates from 0500 hrs to 0800 hrs.
