Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) held its 45th general conference and 14th annual excellence award at auditorium hall, Saku’s Missions College here, on Monday.
In her speech, guest speaker, EAC (P) Kathyinla Jamir emphasised on the importance of skill developmental programme such as IT, carpentry, electrician, plumbing etc., and stressed that it was not only government or white collared job that could feed a family.
In this regard, she added that one should not be only confined to secure governmental jobs.
She urged students to utilise social media platform to gain knowledge and that when they use social media the right way, one could gain more knowledge than what was being taught in their institution.
Speaking on the importance of one’s identity, Jamir urged all to be deeply rooted to their culture and tradition.
She maintained that present generation lacked awareness of their own cultural ethnicity and claimed that they took pride in speaking and understanding other foreign languages rather than one’s own mother tongue.
She said that the cultural history of Nagas would be lost if the same trend continued.
Stating that many parents had cultivated the habit of conversing in “Nagamese” and “English” in their homes, she observed that one should not take pride in it.
Further, she urged parents to make it a habit of conversing in one’s own mother tongue to preserve our culture.
Meanwhile, welcome address was delivered by president ASUD, Moayanger while short speeches were delivered by treasurer, ASUD Menang Molier and general secretary, Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur, P Sashi Longchar.
Longchar in his speech maintained that studying in good institution or having the best tutors did not guarantee success in life without hard work and self determination.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kipanawala Jamir, while invocation was offered by DABA pastor, Limaaküm Jamir. A special number was also presented by Imnanaro Jamir.
Eight students, Yangernaro Jamir, Imtijungla Pongen, Sungjemlila Longkumer, Taliwala Imchen, Temjenienla Imchen, Imlikokla Longkumer, Rachel Tzüdir and Sangerbenla Tzüdir received excellency award for securing top 20 position in the HSLC and HSSLC examination 2019 and 2020.
It may be mentioned that new team of office bearers for the term 2021 to 2022 was also elected with Temsukaba as president, Imnatemsu as vice president, Lanuwapang as general secretary and Aosanen as assistant general secretary.
