Workshop on quality enhancement in research

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Nagaland University (NU) organized a two-day workshop on quality enhancement in research on March 22 and 23, at the conference hall, department of geography, NU, headquarters Lumami.

A press release from, NU PRO stated that at the inaugural programme, IQAC, NU director Prof. Dipak Sinha, pointed out that although publications from the University faculty and scholars were commendable, the publication in impact factor journals were still desired.

 In a special address, NU vice chancellor Prof. Pardeshi Lal urged the research scholars to focus on the areas that will contribute in making the society healthy and prosperous. 

Highlighting various reasons for pursuing PhD, Prof. Lal dwelt on a step-by-step approach in doing research encompassing, among others. 

Stating that all data need not confirm the initial hypothesis, he said the same could in fact lead to new conclusions. Asserting that publication of manuscript was as important as conducting research, he exhorted the participants to plan, execute and present the findings of the research. He congratulated the organizers as well as the participants. 

The resource persons during the two-day programme were NU department of forest, Dr. Mayur Mausoom Phukan, NU department of environmental science Dr.Nabajit Hazarika, NU information scientist, central library, Ochentsungba Ozukum and NU assistant librarian, Central Library, Chanlang Ki Bareh.

Topics on data bases and research metrics, selecting the right journal for publication, understanding different research ID’s, and use of plagiarism software were covered.

The workshop consisted of talk sessions followed by hands on training sessions wherever required.
