
Ark Foundation supported by the Social Welfare department conducted two programmes on substance use prevention, management and co- morbidities with drug users from TFA NGO and OST centre, Jalukie town on March 26.
A press release by Ark Foundation stated that, resource person, ARK Foundation president, Ketho Angami deliberated on the initial stages of addiction and how life becomes unmanageable due to drug habits. Emphasising on the nature of drug use and its harmful effects on individuals and society at large, the speaker urged the users to seek timely interventions and avail health and drug related treatment service to recover from the disease of addiction.
Mentioning that overdose cases have drastically decreased, Ketho also exhorted the users not to be complacent and instead remain vigilant by preventing the likelihood of an overdose occurrence by minimizing the amount of drug use.
While lamenting that lack of awareness and information resulted in the spread, he also highlighted on the management of an overdose, by stating that it can be managed and reverse only through the administration of Naloxone injection.
Meanwhile, the resource speaker also spoke on Tuberculosis and viral hepatitis to create awareness, prevention and treatment of the diseases. He informed that TB was a killer disease and deplored that viral hepatitis apart from HIV and TB becomes a major threat if left untreated.
Further, he informed that Nagaland state had also launched its programme in line with the national programme, however maintained that it was still not made available widely to the people who needs it.
