A new traffic plan for Pfutsero town, an endeavour of Pfutsero town council, Pfutsero police and administration was launched, here, on Monday.
Speaking at the flagging off programme, minister for planning and coordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs Neiba Kronu urged vehicle users to maintain discipline and punctuality and see that traffic rules and regulation were strictly followed. While assuring to assist the administration and police in all possible ways for proper traffic management, Kronu also asked the concerned to clear the abandoned vehicles on the roadsides. The minister assured to take up the repair works of the town road before Christmas and towards this he sought the cooperation of the public. Pfutsero ADC Japheth Woch said that the new traffic plan would be implemented with immediate effect. Pfutsero EAC Dr. Riku Khutso also informed that a joint survey of the town roads/traffic management was conducted in May to prepare a new traffic plan of Pfutsero town as traffic congestion was a serious concern.
According to the new traffic plan, some of the problems causing congestion included increasing number of vehicles and transit vehicles crossing the town, haphazard parking and violation of traffic rules, parking of immobile or abandoned vehicles, dumping of construction materials on the roads and cylinder outlet, local taxi stand at main town traffic point.
Fruit tree for wealth project in Pfutsero
Neiba Kronu distributed 22,000 fruit tree saplings worth Rs. 10 lakh to 12 villages of Pfutsero assembly constituency under Phek district on Monday.
Fruit tree saplings included Avocado, Persimmon, Chestnut, Tamarillo, Yongchak, local herbal tree (lengotshe) etc. Speaking on the occasion, Kronu reminded of the importance of protecting the planet and environment considering the impact of climate change.
He said the project was initiated through the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) with a view to fight the challenges of climate change as well as help uplift the economy.
Kronu asserted that along with environmental protection, sustenance of livelihood was also equally important. The Himalayan range including Nagaland was rich in biodiversity and has the potential of growing different species, he said.
In this regard he said that fruits of low volume with high value yield and not easily perishable items should be the prime target while for crops such as local ginger and tree tomato, the bigger the quantity the market value would be better he added.
Kronu challenged the people to work towards making Pfutsero the “land of fruits and plentiful” and urged upon 16 Pfutsero constituency to set an example for other districts to take up mass fruit tree plantation to uplift the economy.
Giving an introduction on the trees for wealth project, chief executive officer entrepreneurs associate (EA), Neichute Doulo said the project was launched in 2019 by minister Kronu.
He assured that EA would buy back all the produce of the farmers, who have received the saplings.
