Mass rally in Tizit on Oting massacre

Hundreds of residents of Tizit, under the aegis of Tizit civil societies, took out a mass protest rally on Saturday to protest against the killing of 14 civilians at Oting and also demanded the repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

Both young and old were seen with placards, some of which read: “Stop killing unarmed civilians, “Revoke Armed Forces (Sp. Powers) Act”, “Stop state-sponsored terrorism”, “We want justice” etc. The rally began from Pentom Junction to Nagaland check gate.

The protestors said that unless the guilty security personnel were punished and justice delivered, the people of Tizit will not remain silent. The protestors also condemned union home minister Amit Shah’s statement in the Parliament that the botched-up ambush was a case of “mistaken identity”. They also demanded apology from Amit Shah for his “false” statement in Parliament.

Furious protestors also burnt effigies of Amit Shah and Indian army. One of the protestors said that the charter of demands placed by the apex body– Konyak Union should be fulfilled without any delay.

Asserting that they should not test the patience of the people, the protestor said that they will not rest until justice was delivered and the guilty were punished.
