Forceful donation drives continue unabated: DCCI

Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has once again expressed serious concern and highlighted the “extreme harassment” faced by business community due to “forceful fund/donation drives” carried out by multiple unions and organi-zations.
In a press note, DCCI president Akashe Zhimomi said that despite DCCI’s statement published in the local newspapers earlier this month, requesting unions and organizations not to undertake any kind of fund drive from the business community, such illegal fund drives con-tinue unabated.
Akashe pointed out that presently 40-50 unions/organizations of all hues and types have flooded the commercial hub with demand/request to buy their calendars, souvenirs etc. or to contribute towards their silver jubilee, golden jubilee or conferences.
He said that the business community had never shied away to contribute towards genuine causes and events and also have no issues if unions and organizations wished to celebrate jubilees or conferences in grand and befitting manner.
However, DCCI to urged them to organize and raise funds through honest, hard work and acceptable means, rather than resorting to unethical fund/donation drives, which amounts to daylight robbery. Pointing out that January and February were the leanest months in terms financial health both for business community and most citizens, Akashe said that during such lean season business community cannot afford to contribute to whichever union or organization that comes knocking at shops.
DCCI, therefore, asserted that the business community will not entertain any such fund/donation drives without the permission from the district administration and knowledge and approval of DCCI.
