Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has appealed to the state chief minister to expedite the process of investigation being undertaken by the State Vigilance Commission into irregularities/mismanagement of Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme and submit the reports within 45 days.
In a representation addressed to the state chief minister, NSF president, Kesosul Christopher Ltu, and general secretary, Imtiyapang Imsong, stated that the NSF and its federating units undertook thorough physical verification to government schools to ascertain whether the MDM scheme was implemented.
However, NSF said it was found out that almost all the schools did not provide the facilities as per the guidelines and in the approved manner for implementation.
Some schools, NSF said had not even provided MDM even once for the academic session of 2017 depriving and denying the students of their rightful benefits and rights. “We are amazed to discover precisely a contradictory scenario and the schemes never reached the grassroots for whom the project was intended for,” the signatories said.
They said the federation through the findings has arrived to a conclusion that the amount sanctioned for the scheme were siphoned off by some unscrupulous elements.
In this regard, the NSF has demanded that proper and effective strict disciplinary measure be initiated to penalize the defaulters of the implementing agency.
