Demand site to erect monolith Candlelight vigil across villages in Mon todayMass public rally on Dec 16
Konyak civil society organizations (CSOs) on Sunday categorically stated that no ex-gratia or compensation would be accepted until justice was delivered to all victims, including the survivors and family members of the December 4 and 5 incidents.
In a press note issued through the Konyak Union, the CSOs also demanded that the administration should allocate a site without any delay to erect a monolith in honour and respect of the victims.
They said the site would be used as ‘Genocide Park’ in order to commemorate the 14 innocent lives lost on December 4 and 5, which has already been marked in Konyak history as “Black Sunday”.
CSOs warned that if their demand for allocation of a site was not met at the earliest, the Konyaks would be compelled to take extreme course of action. They also demanded that Indian security forces return the hard-earned money, including bikes and other belongings, they had allegedly taken from the victims.
Meanwhile, with the “Week of Deep Mourning” set to culminate on Monday, Konyak civil society organisations (CSOs) have announced a series of programmes in memory of the 14 innocent lives who were mercilessly massacred by Indian Armed Forces in Mon district on December 4 and 5.
As part of the programme, candlelight vigils will be held across villages of Mon district on Monday in collaboration with Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB). This will be followed with a mass public rally on December 16 and a reminder of the earlier memorandum would be submitted to Government of India through the state government.
Konyak CSOs, including Konyak Students’ Union subordinates, Konyak Union branch and Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khung (KNSK) branch, have been urged asked to comply with the director.
Clarifying that NSCN (YA) did not have any base camp nor any operating office in Mon district, the CSOs questioned the Indian Army on whose intelligence source/s it was operating.
They further warned that Konyaks would not remain silent even after the end of the mourning week, but take more extreme course of actions if the authorities concerned, including the Central and State governments, failed to deliver justice within the stipulated time as demanded in their charter of demands.
They also urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to update them and expedite the investigation process at the earliest.
