Videos are surfacing now and then in the net showing right wing vigilantes following trucks laden with cows or barging into slaughter houses, either lynching the beef trader, assaulting the butcher of beef stall or getting the occupants of the vehicles arrested, seizing vehicles on the pretext of carrying beef illegally and so on. The bone of contention of the right wing vigilantes is that Gaumata or mother cow is not given reverence and that the Hindu sentiment hurt by the acts of these minorities who are trading in beef.
Many BJP ruled states have imposed a ban on cow slaughter and trade and trading in beef has become a crime. Anyone found doing so, is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment and also a heavy fine is imposed. No trade or consumption of beef is allowed, but it is ironical to find that India is second largest exporter of beef to Muslim and Christian countries and even to some Asian countries. The reality is that the export companies are owned by Hindus and their companies have Muslim names.
Some might say that beef refers to buffaloes’ meat, but when a reality check is done, it is found, while traveling In a train or in a bus , on either side in the fields, cows and oxen are seen, very few buffaloes.
If beef trading is hurting the Hindu sentiment and their belief — cow is sacred and called Gaumata, why are cows not given reverence by the Hindus themselves? Firstly, Why is artificial insemination process used to impregnate a cow? It’s a painful procedure. Secondly, why is a calf prevented from sucking full belly milk from its mother? These are not the ways, a Gaumata ( mother cow ) should be treated ; nothing abnormal or artificial should be done to the cow.
Thirdly, why should beef or cow meat be exported since the cow is sacred,?
Raid all beef export houses and get the big shots arrested and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment and their licenses cancelled and after that, impose a strict ban on the sale and trade of beef within India. Surely, when that happens, minorities will co-operate and adhere to the government’s dictate.
Let not the right wing vigilantes take law into their own hands as long as these criteria are fulfilled by the government.
Let not the right wing vigilantes lynch innocent minorities who trade in beef just to earn an honest livelihood to feed their families ,meet their medical expenses and to meet their educational expenses of their children.
