Why does World praise Bangladesh for completion of Padma bridge?

Padma bridge is the largest installation in the history of Bangladesh by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Padma Bridge, One of the emotions and feelings of 160 million people. Bangladesh is now witnessing the dream victory with the inauguration of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (June 25, 2022). We can, as if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s words have now opened a new horizon in the world. The daughter of Bangabandhu is floating in praise all over the world. The construction of the Padma Bridge is a major milestone in the transformation of the economic, political, social and cultural life of the people on both sides of the river. Most of the people and organizations in the country and abroad who made heinous remarks about whether the Bangladesh government can start the construction work before the construction of the Padma Bridge, today are full of praise. Especially the poor and common people of the country know how happy it is to build the Padma Bridge because the suffering of those who have been traveling on ferries or launches for so long cannot be overstated.

Even the World Bank has congratulated Bangladesh on the completion and inauguration of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge with domestic funding.  Although it cancelled the loan for the bridge, now it recognized the reality. The World Bank agreed to co-finance the Padma Bridge project but later filed a case in 2012 alleging corruption. However, on February 10, 2017, a Canadian court ruled out Word Bank’s allegations of corruption in the Padma Bridge project. 

On December 6, 1971, at the time of fighting for independence of Bangladesh in a discussion in Washington, Henry Kissinger, the then security adviser, compared Bangladesh to a bottomless basket. The United States has congratulated Bangladesh on the inauguration of the Padma Bridge after 50 years. The Biden administration called the bridge another example of Bangladesh’s leadership in developing regional integration in South Asia. A statement from the US Embassy in Dhaka on Friday (June 24th), the day before the inauguration, said the Padma Bridge would create a new and important connection within Bangladesh. At the same time, it will increase the dynamism of trade and commerce and improve the quality of life. The statement added that the Padma Bridge connects the people of Dhaka and the south-west with the rest of the country. It is likely to increase GDP by another 1.2 per cent, boost the economy, and improve the supply of goods.

China’s envoy to Bangladesh has applauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership for building the Padma bridge with the country’s own finance and described the Awami League-led government’s achievements in Bangladesh during the last decade as “extraordinary. Li Jiming, the Chinese ambassador in Dhaka, has lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s decision to proceed with the Padma Bridge project using local money despite the failure of outside funding, expressing doubts that an average leader of any country could have done so. Without mentioning names, the ambassador stated that several international development partners did not believe the Bangladesh government could ever build such a megastructure with its own funds. “Despite all the uncertainties, pressures, and claims,” he continued, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opted to build the bridge using Bangladesh’s “own money, 100 percent Bangladesh’s own money.” The decision, according to the ambassador, needed “extreme courage and a great sense of political responsibility” on the part of any government leader. The ambassador stated that under the leadership of Bangladesh’s prime minister, the bridge became a solid reality arising from a vision, and that “nobody will ever question that Bangladesh can achieve it.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been highly praised in Pakistan’s ‘Daily Times.’ By a Punjab academician, researcher and international analyst. In an article, Malika-i-Abida Khattak praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s confidence, foresight and courageous decision to finance the construction of the Padma Bridge. ‘The story of Padma Bridge in Bangladesh: more than a bridge?’ In that article titled, he has raised various challenges starting from the beginning to the end of Padma Bridge construction. In the article, he said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a symbol of Bangladesh’s development by building infrastructure like the Padma Bridge, has set a precedent in the world and has shown confidence and foresight. He firmly confronted the conspiracy that had spread during the construction of the bridge and established the truth. The Padma Bridge bears the signature of Sheikh Hasina’s visionary leadership. During his rule, the world got a chance to know the potential of Bangladesh once again. Bangladesh is a country that has repeatedly shown its potential.

Friendly country India which had been helping Bangladesh since 1971 to till now also sent a positive message. Delhi has thanked the Bangladesh government for completing such a big project through various adversities. The Modi government has mentioned that the two countries will continue to be partners in the future. The prime minister of Bangladesh has planned to connect Padma bridge with Asian high way in the future.

Japan, one of the development partners of BD, has extended its heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge. The country’s Ambassador ‘Ito Naoko’ said the Padma Bridge is an excellent milestone in Bangladesh’s development journey. And it has been completed with Bangladesh’s own initiative and funding.

Australia has also praised the Padma Bridge. ‘Jeremy Brewer’, Australia’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, said the Padma Bridge would accelerate economic growth in the Bay of Bengal by connecting Bangladeshis more effectively with their neighbors. He said the bridge would make it easier for Bangladeshis to connect more effectively to the Bay of Bengal and accelerate economic growth in the region.

For a developing country like Bangladesh, building such an expensive bridge at its own expense is truly commendable. Putting an end to all speculations, when Bangladesh completed the construction of the Padma Bridge and inaugurated it, many countries of the world could not help but appreciate it.

Five South Asian countries have congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh on the successful completion and inauguration of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge. Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan are the South Asian nations who joined with others to convey their warm felicitations as the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the much-cherished bridge on June 25 constructed with own financing defying all obstacles, according to a message of Prime Minister Press Wing.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deubaa, Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering conveyed their best wishes and warm congratulations on the successful opening of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project on 25th June, which is a landmark infrastructure project for Bangladesh and its people.

The Padma Bridge will help open up the eyes of international investors including the Saudi companies to give a serious look at Bangladesh as an investment destination, the Saudi envoy in Dhaka said on Monday.

Foreign dignitaries, ambassadors, noted media personalities have congratulated the government on the occasion of the much -anticipated Padma Bridge inauguration.

British. Canadian, French, German, many African countries’ High Commissioners and envoys to Bangladesh Robert C Dickson also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the inauguration of the Padma Bridge.
