Excise Kohima Peducha check gate party after receiving specific information about smuggling of huge quantity of contraband ganja seized 1, 200 (approx) kgs of ganja from a Bolero (MN 03 1873) on August 8.
According to superintendent of Excise Kohima, Vikikhe Aomi, the Excise personnel were kept on “high alert” to intercept the suspected vehicle. He said at around 10:30 a.m., the suspected vehicle on reaching the check gate was ask to stop but ignoring the Excise personnel sped off.
After a hot pursuit for about 5 kms, Aomi said the duty party managed to catch up with the vehicle however by then the driver managed to escape. On searching the vehicle, he said the duty party recovered the ganja from the back seat and boot of the vehicle. In this connection, Aomi said the investigation officer has been asked to communicate with the concern District Transport Officer (DTO) Manipur to establish the identity of the owner of the vehicle. The Excise duty party was led by AIE Akum Jamir and constables—Akho, Khruvotso, Keyivi, Keduoneituo, Akup and Lochumi.
