Dimapur has been experiencing heavy traffic along National Highway 29 (Dimapur to Chumukedima) after the old RCC Bridge at Nagarjan (Kuda village) was closed down as it developed cracks on the deck due to heavy rains during June and July.
In order to ease traffic woes, East Dimapur Sumi Youth Organization (EDSYO) on Thursday assisted Dimapur zone-2 traffic personnel in regulating vehicular movement along the jam-packed area (Purana Bazaar junction-Zion Hospital (Burma Camp) junction). EDYSO would be assisting the traffic police till August 12.
Talking to Nagaland Post, EDSYO president, Reuben H Sumi, said the traffic snail at Purana Bazaar area has increased due to deplorable road condition and increase in number of vehicles plying from Dimapur to Chumukedima.
He also attributed the increase in traffic to dismantling of bridge connecting Purana Bazar and Walford Bridge for constructing of a new bridge and closing down of bridge at Nagarjan.
Sumi said the RCC Bridge at Purana Bazar-Burma Camp was carrying all the traffic which includes heavy laden trucks, medium and small vehicles.
In this regard, EDSYO has appealed the authority to look into the matter and suggested construction of suspension bridge at the earliest. Appreciating the commendable job rendered by the traffic personnel,
EDSYO said the public should appreciate the traffic personnel who have been conducting their duty with dedication.
The organisation has also appealed all commuters to be responsible, to follow single lane driving, to avoid overtaking for smooth flow of traffic and to cooperate with police personnel by obeying traffic rules.
