OUTSTANDING TEACHERS CONFERRED WITH DISTRICT-LEVEL AWARDS
Teachers’ Day 2022 was celebrated across Nagaland on Monday, on the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, re-imagining the future”. The day is being celebrated to recognise and honour the teachers across the country. In Nagaland, the celebration was marked by presenting awards to various teachers in the districts who have made outstanding contributions to education and the welfare of students.
In Dimapur district, a common teachers’ day programme was held at Kuda youth hall, where Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Dimapur PGT (Geography), Dr. Imkongnunsang, Government Middle School (GMS) Lhomithi Colony, primary teacher N Ilitoli Sema, GPS/GMS Diphupar Sumi Hokali Y Khulu and SD Jain Higher Secondary School A/T Rosy Gogoi were awarded.
Congratulating the award recipients, special guest of the programme, retired director, Higher Education, Kuholi Chishi lauded the teachers for their contribution towards nation building.
Describing teaching as a noble profession, she said the selfless sacrifices would not go in vain but will be remembered by students. Kuholi also impressed upon the teachers to not succumb to negative remarks but to be confident and competent.
She also advised them stay updated and inculcate the qualities of a good teacher in order to live exemplary lives for students.
Delivering the welcome address, senior SDEO, DEO (charge) Apokla Longkumer lamented how out of 500 (govt/pvt schools), only 10 nominees were enrolled for the award and that the four were selected under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner (DC).
At the programme, significance of the day was delivered by Pilgrim Higher Secondary School principal, Kaini Khekho Kikon and felicitation of teachers by the special guest.
Highlights of the event included special number by GMS Purana Bazaar, choreography by Christian Higher Secondary School, ode to the teachers by Little Star Higher Secondary School and special presentation by GHSS Purana Bazaar while speech on behalf of award recipients was delivered by GHSS Dimapur PGT, Dr. Imkongnungsang.
Later, vote of thanks was delivered by GHS Burma camp, headmaster, Y Mughaho Zhimo and closing song by Eden Higher Secondary School.
Chümoukedima: Chümoukedima district celebrated its first Teacher’s Day at Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) hall. The programme was organised by Chümoukedima District Education officer, supported by All Nagaland Private School Association (ANPSA) Chümoukedima unit.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, director general of prisons, Rupin Sharma encouraged the teachers to continue upgrading their skills.
Describing teaching as one of the most widespread professions in the country, Rupin Sharma highlighted the roles of teachers, who were instrumental in shaping the future of students.
The DG prisons was of the view that the standard of education and teaching has been improving, however, he lamented on the findings that some teachers in the state who were mere class VIII passed were teaching students of Classes X and XII.
He added that quality of discussion and discourse lacking in the state was also lacking in schools.
“Environment of lateral thinking between students and teachers should be encouraged”, he stated.
Rupin Sharma said if given the chance to choose another profession, he would have chosen the teaching profession since the school was a mass base where transformation of a society could occur.
Further, he urged upon the teachers not to allow tribalism under their guidance in order to bring greater harmony in the society.
It may be mentioned that Avilou Sokra of Government Higher Secondary School C Chümoukedima and Mary Hangsing Mt Mary Higher Secondary School Chümoukedima received the teacher’s award.
Earlier the programme was chaired by principal, Godwin Higher Secondary School Chümoukedima, Mhasino Kuotso and invocation offered by pastor, PBC, A Temsu Lkr while welcome address was delivered by SDEO (DEO charge), Chümoukedima, K Ruby Humtsoe.
Mokokchung: Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) organised its 61st teacher’s day celebration at town hall Mokokchung with chief conservator of Forest, Supongnukshi Ao as the speaker,
Speaking on this year’s theme, he said teachers were pillars of the society who played an integral part in moulding the future of a student.
He said the pandemic has changed the way of imparting education which he said, has become the new normal.
In this regard, he encouraged the teachers to catch up with the new system and stated that the period of education was the most important time of a student.
He therefore, urged upon the teachers to lead guide students for holistic development and asked them to be passionate about what they do so that they could motivate students enthusiastically.
At the programme, keynote address was delivered by AKM president Nungdokyanger while short speeches were delivered by DC Shashank Pratap Singh, DEO Mokokchung and ANPSA Mokokchung unit.
Awards were also presented to Bideshwar Mandal AT of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Angumzungla PGT of GHSS Senayangba, Jojangsangba Ao GT of GHS Dilong and Rosemary PT of GPS Longli Lenden Tuli.
The Education Forum of Mokokchung also awarded subject toppers of HSLC 2022 along with respective teachers, top 20 HSLC students 2022 and overall highest position in CISCE 2022.
Wokha: Wokha District Education department celebrated teachers’ day 2022 at GHSS Wokha auditorium with DC Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan as special guest. DC while stressing that the role of teachers could never be overstated said that the noble profession of teaching needs to be cherished by all as teaching was not so much about salary or livelihood but more about service and mentoring. He opined that nothing would ever replace teachers and therefore, urged upon the teachers to make maximum use of technology in their teaching-learning processes so that children’s interests and curiosity were retained in the process of mentoring and coaching.
DC Wokha also presented awards to GHSS Wokha senior G/T M Mhabemo Odyuo, GPS Chukitong P/T K Arhono Ezung, GMS Tssori New P/T Nyamongo Yanthan, and Regimental School Wokha DEF A/T K Abeni Ngullie.
Senior SDEO and DEO Wokha in-charge N Wobenthung Lotha delivered welcome address, ADC (SS) K Chandemo Patton spoke on the significance of teachers’ day, and Police Unit Baptist Church Wokha pastor Zubenthung Ngullie offered special prayers for the teachers.
Commemorating teachers, GMS Wokha Town Sector A student Shancholo Y Ngullie recited an ode to teachers and GHSS Wokha Standard 12 (science) student Lochumbeni T Ngullie presented a beautiful rendition of ‘In this moment”. Students of Isaiah Ability Higher Secondary School Wokha and GMS Wokha Town Sector B also presented special numbers.
Earlier, invocation was said by project assistant (SS) T Ezanthung Lotha; vote of thanks was proposed by DEO Wokha Renchano Kithan and benediction by Rengma Baptist Church Wokha pastor Keshwega Seb.
Meanwhile, All Nagaland Private School Association (ANPSA), Wokha Unit celebrated teacher’s day at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Wokha with advisor for Law & Justice, Dr. Chumben Murry as special guest.
According to a DIPR report, Dr. Murry acknowledged the teachers for their sacrifices and urged upon them to be agents of change. Reminiscing the role played by his teachers, he sent out a positive message to all teachers on their roles and responsibilities.
Highlights of the programme included song, cultural presentation poetry recitation and dance.
ANPSA Wokha unit president K. Edward Ngullie welcomed the participants while ANPSA Wokha unit joint secretary Irene Mozhui proposed vote of thanks.
Mon: Department of School Education, Mon division organised teachers’ day 2022 at Council Hall Mon with DC Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma as guest of honour.
According to a DIPR report, the DC in his speech focused on the important role of both teachers and students in steering the direction of any society.
Verma used a flowing river as a metaphor for teachers and urged upon the students to strive to attain their best by making use of their flowing river of knowledge. He appealed to all the teachers in the district to be active and to enthusiastically complete all the tasks laid before them.
The DC said the teaching community would determine the future of the district and encouraged them to take pride in teaching.
At the programme, M. Esther Moikap Konyak, PT, GHSS Mon; John Konyak, PT, GPS Shangsa; N. Langphong Konyak, teacher in-charge, GPS Mienchangle and Dziesebeiu Angela, Asst. teacher, Sacred Heart School, Mon received awards for their services and contribution.
Tseminyu: Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Mini Indoor Stadium, Tseminyu with DC Tseminyu, Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi as special guest.
According to a DIPR report, Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi congratulated the award recipients Mary Tep, graduate teacher; Albert Tsela, graduate teacher and Nisenli Kath, primary teacher.
He expressed gratitude to the teachers for playing an important role in shaping the future of the students and the society.
Tuensang: District Education office Tuensang organised teachers’ day celebration at Town Hall, Tuensang with DC Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion Ramnikant said students performing with utmost discipline was a reflection of the teachers’ sincerity and also compared such discipline to that of the officers in the district.
He challenged the gathering to do away with proxy teachers so that such activity would not overshadow the dedication of the sincere and committed teachers.
The DC also exhorted the teachers and leaders of the society by saying that a lot more has to be done to achieve the desired results for the district.
At the programme, Aheli Sema, HT, GHS Chingmelen; M. Akumba Chang, PT, GPS Yonyu; Mutsoi Khaimniungan, Asst. Teacher, Green View School, Longkhim and Natimanlu Chang, Asst. Teacher, Baptist Thangyen Higher Secondary School received awards for their contributions.
Kiphire: Kiphire district celebrated teachers’ day at Hopongkyu Memorial hall, Kiphire with the DC Kiphire T. Wati Aier as guest of honour.
According to a DIPR report, DC said students should appreciate teachers for their tireless effort and urged upon them to maintain discipline and to be pro-active. He advised the teachers to pay special attention in Mathematics and Science as many students were weak in the two subjects. Wati Aier also asked teachers to coordinate with staff and students for better environment.
Kiphire District teacher’s award 2022 for meritorious service towards student community was awarded to Samuel PGT (History) GHSS; Mhomo GT, GHS, Yangphi and S. Tethsomong Sangtam, PT, GMS Sangphure. Merit Student award in HSLC from Kiphire district, sponsored by KDPSS, was awarded to Chumtila A Sangtam from Saramati Modern View School.
Peren: Teacher’s Day 2022 was observed at Government High School, Ngwalwa Peren.
According to a DIPR report, a speech on the significance of teacher’s day was delivered by Lungciepeule of class X. On behalf of the teachers, headmaster Chusi Hieme conveyed words of gratitude to the students.
Meanwhile, teacher’s day was also celebrated at Government Higher Secondary School Ahthibung.
CMHSS: Christina Memorial Higher Secondary School, Aoyimti, Dimapur celebrated teachers’ day at the school auditorium.
During the celebration, students recited poems and presented songs and dances to honour the teachers. Opi Longkumer Trustee handed over the “teacher of the year trophy” to Hikato Chishi.
KV: Kendriya Vidyalaya Dimapur celebrated teachers’ day where students of class XII performed the role of “student teachers” experiencing a unique moment of teaching pedagogy. A seminar on “importance of education in human life” was also conducted.
PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapath Higher Secondary School celebrated teachers’ day. The programme commenced with floral tribute to portrait of Dr. S Radhakrishnan, second president of free India.
Principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee in his keynote address recalled the selfless service of the teachers for all round development of the students and society. This was followed by more speeches on the significance of the day. Highlights of the programme included various cultural presentations by students.
MGM College: MGM College Dimapur, celebrated teachers’ day as for faculty members of the college. At the programme, principal of the college, Rev. Fr. Dr. P.S. Varghese delivered the welcome speech and emphasised on the role played by the teachers in molding young minds.
Matri Foundation: On the occasion of teachers’ day, Marti Foundation on September 3, distributed gifts to teachers of Pike Central School, Sema Tilla.
