Wokha Village Council (WVC) has appealed to deputy commissioner (DC) Wokha to conduct a joint verification of NH-61 (NH-2) and see whether it was being constructed as per Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) specifications and guidelines on December 13, 2022 positively with Wokha district administration, NH officials under Wokha division, contractors and the council.
In a representation to DC Wokha, WVC chairman K Vandan E/Rui and secretary Shanthungo Murry also warned that in case of failure to do so, they should not be held responsible for any issue pertaining to NH-61 stretching from NST area to Hammock Resort under Wokha village jurisdiction in the future.
While appreciating the DC for rendering yeoman service to people of Wokha, particularly for commencing construction of NH-61, the duo appraised him of WVC’s observations on the burning issue.
They disclosed that the council held a meeting on December 4, 2022 to deliberate on the issues raised by the public, particularly road construction from the NST area to Hammock Resort under Wokha village jurisdiction where they alleged the workmanship was not as per the specification of MoRTH and hence was not satisfactory.
They mentioned that WVC was entrusted the responsibility of overseeing the work, but added that they were dismayed that there was no coordination of the contractors with the council since commencement of the construction to date.
